Accidental Awakening

Recently, I was away at a silent, weeklong meditation retreat. Jonathan Foust, one of the dharma teachers, said, "Enlightenment is an accident and meditation makes us accident prone." I have found this to be remarkably accurate. I am not enlightened in the cosmic sense of the word, but I have had experiences and insights, which have made me feel a sense of interconnectedness. Ironically, these moments have often occurred when I am not formally meditating on my bench. They have occurred while I am crossing the street, racing to an appointment, sitting on the subway, hiking in the woods, traveling in foreign places and, most recently, in laundry room of all places!

Curious? Confused? A bit of both? Here's a poem I wrote last night that captures in verse what I'm fumbling to say in prose.
