Seeking Feeling Knowing
by Lauren Taub Cohen
I awoke
to the sound
of my heart thumping
like quiet footsteps
sinking into
thick bands of
settled snow.
Crunch.
Crunch.
Crunch.
In the distance
I heard a familiar warble
of a wayward bird
I often associate
with summer and fall.
I raced to the window
to see if I could
finally spot
this mysterious bird
whose call is always
a source of comfort
and warm assurance.
And then it dawned on me…
Isn’t this a bit like faith?
You know it to be real.
You can feel it,
sometimes hear it,
but not necessarily
see it.
