Back then, she hungered
for the absence of worry
and the promise
of unbreakable ease.
She lay there
drifting upon a float
like an unhurried cloud
all body and breath
water lapping up
and over her arms.
She couldn’t name
what she was feeling
but she knew this
is what had been missing
It was as if she’d discovered
a new color
and she imagined coloring
herself in and filling
herself up with
this new possibility
of being.
